TYLER & MARGAN: On Location Engagements

Listen…..some of the best moments in photography are the ones you don't plan. That was certainly the case with Tyler and Margan's recent engagement session. While attending a surprise engagement proposal celebration of some friends, I ran into Margan’s mother and she told me Margan wants me to do her engagement session.  I told her to have Margan contact me and we’ll get it done.  Come to find out, Margan was at the proposal, however we never talked about the intended session.  

A few days later, I get a notification that I’m booked for Margan’s engagement session. I reached out to her and inquired about their outfits and what look they were going for.  She shared their vision for a black formal look and a more casual look with nude and neutral colors and the rest is history! They wanted a nice architecture look with columns, steps and breezeway for the formal and location of greenery, trees and water for the casual look.  

After gathering the info I needed, I knew the exact location and look I was going for.  I knew that I would use lighting on the formal look and then I would shoot natural light for the casual look.  I gave her the location and when we walked up, she told me it was exactly what she envisioned and was completely happy and excited. I knew then, it was gonna be an amazing day with them.  

We immediately embraced the spontaneity, dabbled a little flash photography and then the natural lighting ushered the serene setting for us. There was no pressure for perfectly posed shots; instead, we focused on capturing the genuine connection between them. It was an overcast day and as a seasoned photographer, you just know how to embrace the light God gives you and run with it. The result was a collection of images that felt effortlessly romantic and authentic.

Tyler and Margan wanted to really highlight their awesome personalities in a light and playful atmosphere.  From the first click of my shutter to the final one, (891) images later, they really made my job easy capturing a series of candid, unforgettable moments. From kisses to the lips to nibbles of the ear and to warm embraces, every image tells a story of their love without any forced formality.

Congratulations, Tyler and Margan, on this new, beautiful chapter. It was an absolute joy to capture your love story as it unfolded naturally. We can't wait to document your wedding day! 

Everyone, meet Tyler & Margan!

Where did you guys meet?

We met on social media(Instagram). We had been following each other for years interacting/liking posts here and there but we never communicated directly until Tyler shot his shot in my dm’s one day after a birthday post of mine.

How long have you all been together?

We will celebrate 2 years on Christmas Day this year!

Where was the first date located?

Our first date started at Texas Roadhouse, Tyler's favorite at the time and then it continued on to Main Event because we were both having such a good time and neither of us was ready to go home. We got together again literally 2 days later.

Who said I love you first? And what was your response?

Tyler indirectly said it first by sharing a very sweet post that had” I Love You” at the end. He said he was nervous to say it directly because it was early in our relationship and he didn't want to scare me but my immediate response was “I was hoping you would say it first, I love you too”. So the feelings were definitely mutual.

Where did you all get engaged?

Crazy Cajun restaurant. We showed up to what I assumed to be a surprise birthday dinner for me as all my family started singing Happy Birthday when I walked in. While greeting everyone I notice that Tyler had disappeared and my mom is calling me to “come check out my cake” I walk over into this event/banquet room that's decorated beautifully and there he was standing in front of a “Will you Marry Me?” sign.

What is one thing that you two must do every day?

Spending uninterrupted time to simply just be together and check on/in with each other. We both have very time consuming careers with opposite schedules, him being a police officer who works nights and me being a school teacher and coach that works well into the evening. We are very intentional with every single moment that our schedules align.

What do you two have in common?

We are both really big on family, we love sushi and listening to music together(specifically the oldies), we are both very active and we sometimes hit the gym together, and we both enjoy cooking.

Which one of you cooks the best?

Margan, hands down but Tyler makes the best steaks.

What is your wedding date?

March 7th, 2026

Where are you all going for your honeymoon?

We aren't planning an immediate honeymoon, but Thailand is our dream location!

Lastly, why did you choose Charis Photography for your session?

I(Margan) have been a fan of Charis Photography's work for a very long time and was waiting on the perfect special event to get to shoot with him. So when it came time to plan our engagements, it was a no brainer. I knew Mr. Beverly was the one to bring our vision and ideas to life and he did more than that. He completely exceeded both of our expectations.

Now that your engagement session is over, what are your thoughts about your final images and the experience with your photographer?

Seeing the images for the first time had us in total awe. Every photo was absolutely beautiful and he did such a great job capturing who we are as a couple and our love for each other. Alfred, was extremely professional and made us feel very comfortable from the jump. He had plenty of ideas to help us with posing and he gave constant feedback and direction which was extremely helpful and made the entire photoshoot flow seamlessly. The overall experience was a strong 10/10 across the board!
